MIE-KU ritual

MIE-KU ritual 1

A ritual ceremony is held from 9:00 at Lantern Hall in OKUNOIN and from 13:00 at MIE-DO(the Honorable Portrait Hall)in GARAN.

MIE-KU is one of the most important rituals. It is held to honor the founder Kobo-Daishi for his great achievements. The ritual takes place on both March 21 on lunar and solar calendars as well as monthly, on the 21st of every month. The MIE-KU held on March 21st on lunar calendar is especially auspicious-gathering worshippers from all over Japan and is a magnificient ceremony. A prestigious Tea Ceremony Master offers special tea and the Flower Arranging School of Koyasan offers flowers in their ceremonial way. On the eve of March 21 on lunar calendar, MANDO-MANGUE-E is held in GARAN and inside of some temple buildings, and is available to be viewed by the general public.
