Koyasan
Koyasan

Koyasan, a sacred site in Shingon Esoteric Buddhism,
was founded by the great monk Kobo Daishi at the beginning of the Heian period.
Kobo Daishi is said to have derived the name of the Kongobuji Temple from the sutra known as the “Kongobu-rokaku-issai-yuga-yugi kyo” (The Sutra of All Yogas and Yogis of the Pavilion with the Vajra-Top).
The title characters above, which spell out the name of “Koyasan,” were created by combining characters written by the hand of Kobo Daishi himself.
